Quran Audio in English: Chapter 6 Livestock

Quran Chapter 6 - Livestock

In the name of God, the Kind, the Caring.

1. Praise be to God: Who created the heavens and the earth — and made darkness and light. But the unbelievers attribute equals to their Lord.

2. He created you from clay, and then He set your lifespan — a lifespan decided by Him. Yet you doubt.

3. He is God in the heavens and on earth. He knows your secrets and what you make public, and He knows what you do.

4. Never did a message from their Lord reach them, but they turned away.

5. They denied the truth when it came to them. But what they joked about will happen to them.

6. Don’t they realize how many generations We destroyed before them? We had established them on earth more firmly than We established you, and We made the sky rain abundantly on them, and We made rivers flow under them. But We destroyed them for their crimes, and We established other civilizations after them.

7. Even if We sent them a book on paper, and they touched it with their hands, the unbelievers would say, “This is nothing but obvious magic.”

8. And they say, “If only an angel came down to him.” If We sent an angel, the matter would be settled, and they wouldn't be delayed.

9. Even if We had made him an angel, We would've made him a man, and We would've confused them when they’re already confused.

10. Messengers before you were ridiculed, but those who mocked them became besieged by what they ridiculed.

11. Say, “Travel the earth, and see what happened to the deniers.”

12. Say, “To whom belongs everything in the heavens and on earth?” Say, “To God.” He inscribed mercy for Himself. He will gather you for Resurrection Day — there is no doubt about it. Those who lost their souls won’t believe.

13. All that lives, day and night, belongs to Him. He's the Listener, the Knower.

14. Say, “Should I take another protector than God, the Creator of heavens and earth, Who feeds and is not fed?” Say, “I was commanded to be the first of those who submit.” And don’t be of the associators.

15. Say, “I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a Great Day.”

16. Whoever is spared that Day — He had mercy on him. That’s the obvious victory.

17. When God touches you with adversity: no one can take it away, except He. And if He touches you with good — He is Capable of anything.

18. He's the Irresistible over His beings. He's the Wise, the Expert.

19. Say, “What thing is more solemn in testimony?” Say, “God is a witness between you and me. This Quran was revealed to me to warn you with it and whomever it may reach. Do you testify that there are gods with God?” Say, “I don’t testify.” Say, “He is one God, and I'm innocent of your associations.”

20. Those who received the Scripture recognize it, as they recognize their children. But those who lost their souls don’t believe.

21. Who’s more guilty than he who invents lies about God or denies His revelations? Evildoers won’t succeed.

22. The day We bring them all, We will say to the idolaters: “Where are the partners you claimed?”

23. Their only argument will be to say, “By God, our Lord, we weren't associators.”

24. See how they lie to themselves, and what they invented failed them.

25. Some of them listen to you. But We put veils over their hearts, so they can’t understand it. And there is a deafness in their ears. Even if they saw all the signs, they wouldn't believe. Until, when they come to argue with you, the unbelievers say, “These are just myths of the ancients.”

26. They prevent others from it, and they avoid it themselves. They only ruin themselves, and they don’t know it.

27. If you could see, when they’re held before the Fire, they'll say, “If only we could be sent back, and not reject our Lord’s revelations, and be among the faithful.”

28. What they kept hidden before will appear in front of them. And even if they were sent back, they would return to what was forbidden to them. They are liars.

29. They say, “There is nothing except our worldly life, and we won’t be resurrected.”

30. If only you could see, as they stand before their Lord. He will say, “Isn’t this real?” They will say, “Yes, by our Lord.” He will say, “So taste the suffering of what you denied.”

31. Losers are those who deny the meeting with God. Then, when the Hour suddenly overtakes them, they will say, “Woe to us for having ignored it.” They will carry their weights on their backs — evil is what they carry.

32. The worldly life is nothing but play and entertainment. The Home of the Hereafter is better for the righteous. You don't understand?

33. We know that you're saddened by what they say. They can’t turn you into a liar. The wrongdoers reject God’s revelations.

34. Messengers before you were rejected, but they patiently endured rejection and persecution; until Our help came to them. There can be no change in God’s words. Reports of the Messengers have come to you.

35. If you find their rejection unbearable, seek, if you can, a tunnel into the earth or a stairway to heaven, and bring them a miracle. If God had willed, He would've gathered them for guidance. So don’t be ignorant.

36. Only those who listen will respond. The dead will be raised by God, and they’ll be brought back to Him.

37. And they say, “Why didn’t a miracle from his Lord descend upon him?” Say, “God can send a miracle, but most of them don’t know.”

38. There is no creature on land, nor a bird flying in the sky, that doesn’t belong to a community like yours. We overlooked nothing in the Book. Then they’ll be gathered before their Lord.

39. Those who reject Our revelations are deaf and dumb in darkness. Whomever God wills, He sends him astray. And whomever He wills, He sets him on a straight path.

40. Say, “Suppose God’s punishment comes now, or the hour comes now, would you call on anyone other than God — if you’re honest?

41. In fact, you’ll call on Him alone. And if He wills, He will lift what you called Him for, and you’ll forget what you associated.

42. We sent messengers to communities before you, and We afflicted them with adversities and hardships; so that they may be humbled.

43. If only, when Our power came upon them, they humbled themselves. But their hearts hardened, and Satan made their works attractive to them.

44. Once they ignored what they were reminded of, We opened for them the gates of all things. Until, when they celebrated in what they received, We suddenly seized them, and they were in total despair.

45. The last traces of the wrongdoers were cut off. And praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds.

46. Say, “Suppose God takes away your hearing and sight and seals your hearts; what god other than God would restore them to you?” See how We explain the signs, but they turn away.

47. Say, “Suppose God’s punishment came to you suddenly or gradually; would anyone be destroyed except the wrongdoers?”

48. We sent messengers only to bring good news and warnings. Whoever believes and reforms will neither fear nor be sad.

49. As for those who reject Our signs — suffering will afflict them because of their defiance.

50. Say, “I don't say that I possess the reserves of God's riches,” nor, “I know the unseen,” nor, “I'm an angel.” I follow only what’s inspired in me.” Say, “Are the blind and the sighted equal? Why don’t you think?”

51. Warn with it those who fear being gathered before their Lord — they have no protector or intercessor besides Him — so that they may become righteous.

52. Don’t drive away those who call upon their Lord, morning and evening, desiring His attention. You aren't responsible for them, and they aren't responsible for you. If you drive them away, you would be a wrongdoer.

53. Thus, We test some of them by others, so that they say, “Are these the ones God favored over us?” Doesn’t God know the appreciative?

54. When those who believe in Our revelations come to you, say, “Peace be upon you; your Lord has decreed that He's merciful. Whoever does evil in ignorance, then repents and reforms himself — He's Forgiving and Merciful.”

55. That’s how We explain the revelations. And to expose the path of the criminals.

56. Say, “I'm forbidden to worship those whom you call upon besides God.” Say, “I won’t follow your thoughts; because if I did, I would stray and not be guided.”

57. Say, “I have clear evidence from my Lord, and you rejected Him. I don’t have what you want me to hurry. The decision is up to God. He tells the truth, and He's the best Judge.”

58. Say, “If I had what you wanted me to hurry, the issue that divides us would be resolved.” God knows the unjust well.

59. He holds the keys to the invisible realm. He alone knows them. And He knows everything on land and sea. Not one leaf falls without His knowledge. Not one grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything wet or dry, but it’s in a clear document.

60. He receives your soul by night, and He knows what you do by day. Then He awakens you; so that your fixed term comes to an end. Then you return to Him, and He'll tell you what you did.

61. He's Irresistible over His servants, and He sends guardians over you. Until, when death overtakes one of you, Our envoys bring him back, without neglecting their duty.

62. Then they're brought back to God, their True Master. Certainly, to Him belongs the final decision, and He's the fastest of mathematicians.

63. Ask, “Who rescues you from the darkness of land and sea; you call Him humbly and inwardly: ‘If He saves us from this, we'll be grateful?”

64. Say, “It's God who saves you from it and other dangers. But then you associate others with Him.”

65. Say, “He can punish you from above, or from beneath your feet, or divide you into factions and make you taste the violence of each other. Ponder how We explain the revelations, so that they may understand.”

66. But your people rejected it, even though it’s the truth. Say, “I’m not a keeper over you.”

67. Every event has an end. You'll find out soon.

68. When you meet those who gossip about Our verses, turn away from them unless they turn to another subject. But if Satan makes you forget, then, when you remember, don’t sit with the unjust people.

69. The righteous are in no way responsible for them. It’s a reminder, so that they may abstain.

70. Distance yourself from those who regard their religion as play and amusement and are deceived by this worldly life. But remind with it, lest a soul be damned for what it did. It has no protector or intercessor besides God. And no ransom will be accepted from it. These will be condemned because of their deeds. They'll have a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment because they didn’t believe.

71. Say, “Should we worship besides God what can neither benefit nor harm us. And turn back on our heels; after God has guided us. Like someone seduced by devils and confused on earth. Although he has friends calling him for guidance: 'Come to us'?” Say, “God’s guidance is the guidance, and we were commanded to submit to the Lord of the Universe.”

72. “And to perform the prayers, and to revere Him. You’ll be gathered before Him.”

73. He created the heavens and the earth for a purpose. The Day He says, “Be!” It will be. His word is truth. Sovereignty is His on the Day when the trumpet is blown. He's the Knower of the visible and invisible realms, the Wise Expert.

74. When Abraham said to his father Azar: “Do you take statues for gods? I see that you and your people are misguided.”

75. Thus, We showed Abraham the splendor of the heavens and the earth — so that he may become a convinced believer.

76. When night fell upon him, he saw a planet. He said, “This is my lord!” But when it set, he said, “I don’t like things that set.”

77. Then, when he saw the moon rising, he said, “This is my lord!” But when it set, he said, “Unless my Lord guides me, I'll be astray.”

78. Then, when he saw the sun rising, he said, “This is my Lord, this is the biggest.” But when it set, he said, “O my people, I'm free from your idolatry.

79. I've directed my attention to Him Who created the heavens and the earth — a monotheist — and I’m not an associator.”

80. And his people argued with him. He said, “Do you argue with me about God — when He has guided me? I don’t fear those you associate with Him — unless my Lord wills it. My Lord knows everything. Won’t you think?

81. Why should I fear what you associate, when you don’t fear associating others with God — a practice He never allowed for you? Which side is more entitled to security, if you happen to know?”

82. Those who believe and don’t obscure their faith with misdeeds — it’s they who have security and are guided.

83. That was the argument We gave to Abraham against his people. We elevate whom We will. Your Lord is Wise and Informed.

84. We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and we guided them both. We guided Noah before. And of his descendants: David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, and Aaron. Thus, We reward the righteous.

85. And Zechariah, John, Jesus, and Elias — every one of them was upright.

86. And Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot — We favored them over all other peoples.

87. And of their ancestors, and their descendants, and their siblings — We chose them, and We guided them on a straight path.

88. That’s God’s guidance. He guides with it whom He wills of His servants. If they had associated, their works would've been in vain.

89. We gave them the Book, the Law, and the prophethood. If they reject them, We entrusted them to people who accept them.

90. They're the ones God guided, so follow their guidance. Say, “I ask of you no fee for this. It’s a reminder for everyone.”

91. They don’t appreciate God as He should be appreciated; when they say: “God didn’t reveal anything to a human being.” Say, “Who revealed the Book that Moses brought — light and guidance for people?” You put it on scrolls, displaying them while hiding much. And you were taught what neither you nor your ancestors knew. Say, “God.” Then leave them to play with speculation.

92. This is also a blessed Book that We revealed, confirming what preceded it, so that you warn the Foremost City and its surroundings. Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and they're dedicated to their prayers.

93. Who does more evil than someone who invents lies about God, or says, “It was revealed to me,” when nothing was revealed to him, or says, “I can reveal the same as what God revealed”? If only you could see the wicked, in the floods of death, with the angels stretching out their arms: “Give up your souls.” Today, you’ll be repaid with the suffering of shame; because of what you falsely said about God, and you were too proud to accept His revelations.”

94. “You came to Us alone, just as We created you the first time, and you left behind the favors We bestowed upon you. We don’t see with you your intercessors, those you claimed to be your partners. The bonds between you are severed. And what you assumed has failed you.”

95. God is the One who splits open the seed and the kernel. He brings the living from the dead, and He brings the dead from the living. Such is God — how can you deviate?

96. He breaks the dawn. He made the night for rest; and the sun and the moon with precision. That’s the design of the Almighty, the Knowing.

97. He created the stars for you; to guide you through the darkness of land and sea. We explain the signs for those who know.

98. He produced you from a single being, then a repository, then a depository. We detailed the revelations for those who understand.

99. He sends rain from the sky, with which We produce all kinds of vegetation. And lush greenery, from which We produce grain in clusters. And date palms with hanging clusters, vineyards, olives, and pomegranates — similar and dissimilar. Observe their fruits as they grow and ripen. There are signs there for those who believe.

100. They gave God partners — the sprites — although He created them. And they pierced for Him sons and daughters, without any knowledge. Glory be to Him! He’s Exalted, far beyond what they describe.

101. The Author of the heavens and the earth. How could He have a child when He had no companion? He created everything, and He knows everything.

102. This is God, your Lord. There is no god but He, the Creator of all things. So worship Him. He governs everything.

103. No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all visions. He's the Kind, the Expert.

104. Insights have come to you from your Lord. Whoever sees, it’s to his advantage. And whoever is blind, it’s against him. “I'm not a guardian over you.”

105. This is how we explain the verses. But they say, “You learned it.” We make them clear for people who know.

106. Follow what was revealed to you from your Lord. There is no god but He. And turn away from the idolaters.

107. If God had so willed, they wouldn’t have associated. We didn’t appoint you as their guardian, nor are you responsible for them.

108. Don't insult what they worship besides God; otherwise, they may insult God out of hostility and ignorance. Thus, We made the deeds of every community attractive to them. Then they'll return to their Lord, and He will inform them of what they did.

109. They swear by God, with solemn oaths, that if a miracle came to them, they would believe. Say, “Miracles are from God alone.” What would make you realize that even if they did come, they still wouldn't believe?

110. We turn away their hearts and visions; because they refused to believe it the first time, leaving them blundering in their rebellion.

111. Even if We sent them the angels, and the dead spoke to them, and We gathered all things together before them, they still wouldn't believe, unless God so wills. But most of them don’t know.

112. We assigned to every prophet an enemy: devilish humans and demons, inspiring one another with elegant deceptive words. If your Lord had willed, they wouldn’t have done it. So leave them to their fabrications.

113. So that the hearts of hereafter-deniers may be receptive to it, and be content with it, and persist in whatever they pursue.

114. “Shall I seek a judge other than God, when He sent you the Book, fully explained?” Those who received the Book know that it’s the truth revealed by your Lord. So don’t be skeptical.

115. The Word of your Lord was fulfilled with truth and justice. Nothing can change His Words. He's the Hearer, the Knower.

116. If you were to obey most people on earth, they would take you away from God’s path. They only follow speculations, and they only tell lies.

117. Your Lord knows best those who stray from His path, and He knows best the guided.

118. Eat what God’s name was pronounced over: if you believe in His messages.

119. Why wouldn't you eat what God’s name was pronounced over — when He explained in detail what He forbade you — except out of necessity? Many mislead others with their opinions; due to a lack of knowledge. It’s your Lord who knows sinners best.

120. Abandon sin, both outward and inward. Those who commit sins will be repaid for what they did.

121. Don’t eat what God’s name wasn’t pronounced over. It’s sinful. The devils inspire their followers to argue with you. If you obey them, you would be pagan.

122. Is someone who was dead, and We gave him life, and a light to walk among people, like someone in darkness, unable to come out of it? Thus the deeds of the unbelievers seem reasonable to them.

123. And so, We placed in every city its prominent criminals, to conspire there. But they only conspire against themselves, and they don’t know it.

124. When a verse reaches them, they say, “We won’t believe until we receive what God’s messengers received.” God knows better where to place His Message. Humiliation from God, and severe punishment, will fall on the criminals for plotting.

125. Whomever God wants to guide, He opens his mind to submission. And whomever He wants to lead astray, He closes his mind — as if he were struggling to ascend the sky. By such means, God defiles those who don’t believe.

126. This is your Lord’s straight path. We explained the verses in detail for those who think.

127. They'll have the Home of Peace, with their Lord, and He's their Protector, because of what they did.

128. The day He gathers them all together: “O community of demons, you've exploited multitudes of humans.” Their adherents among humans will say, “Our Lord, we took advantage of each other, but now we've reached the term you assigned for us.” He will say: “The Fire is your home, yours to remain there forever — unless God wills otherwise. Your Lord is Wise and Knowledgeable.

129. Thus, We cause certain wrongdoers to befriend one another; because of the deeds they earned.

130. “O community of demons and humans! Didn’t messengers come to you from among you, reporting to you My messages, and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?” They'll say, “We testify against ourselves.” The worldly life seduced them. And they'll testify against themselves that they were unbelievers.

131. Your Lord would never destroy cities for their misdeeds before their inhabitants knew it.

132. Everyone’s classification will be based on what they did. Your Lord isn't unaware of what they do.

133. Your Lord is Rich, Beyond Need, Full of Mercy. If He wills, He can get rid of you and replace you with whomever He wills, just as He produced you from the descendants of other people.

134. What you're promised is coming, and you can’t prevent it.

135. Say, “O my people! Do it your way, and I’ll do it mine. You'll soon know who will gain the Happy Home in the Hereafter.” The wrongdoers won’t succeed.

136. They reserve for God a portion of the harvest and livestock He produced, saying, “This is for God,” as they claim, “and this is for our partners.” Whatever is for their partners doesn’t reach God, and whatever is for God reaches their partners. How badly they judge!

137. Similarly, their idols entice many idolaters to kill their children, to lead them to their ruin, and to confuse them in their faith. Had God willed, they wouldn’t have done it. So leave them to their fraud.

138. They say: “These animals and crops are set aside. No one can eat them without our permission,” so they claim, and animals forbidden to ride, and animals over which they don’t pronounce God's name — falsely attributing rules to Him. He will repay them for their lies.

139. They say: “What's in the wombs of these animals is reserved for our men, and forbidden to our women.” But if it's dead, they all share it. He will repay them for their allegations. He's Wise and Aware.

140. Losers are those who foolishly kill their children out of ignorance, and they forbid what God provided for them — falsely attributing to God. They're lost. They aren't guided.

141. He produces gardens, both cultivated and wild, date palms, crops of diverse tastes, and olives and pomegranates, similar and dissimilar. Eat their fruits when they ripen, pay their due on harvest day, and don’t squander. He doesn’t like the wasteful.

142. Some animals are for transportation, and others for clothing. Eat what God provided for you, and don’t follow in Satan’s footsteps. He’s your absolute enemy.

143. Eight pairs: two sheep and two goats. Say, “Did He forbid the two males, or the two females, or what's in the wombs of the two females? Tell me based on true knowledge; if you speak the truth.”

144. And two camels and two cows. Say, “Did He forbid both males, or both females, or what the wombs of both females contain? Or were you there when God asked you to do this?” Who’s more at fault than someone who invents lies about God to mislead people out of ignorance? God doesn’t guide the wrongdoers.

145. Say, “In what was revealed to me, I find nothing forbidden to the consumer who eats it, except carrion, blood products, or pork — which is unclean — or a sin offering dedicated to someone other than God. But if someone is forced out of necessity, without disobeying or willingly transgressing, then your Lord is Forgiving and Kind.”

146. We forbade the Jews animals with claws. And the fat of cows and sheep, except what clings to their backs, or the entrails, or what clings to bones. We imposed these penalties because of their injustice. We are Truthful.

147. If they accuse you of lying, say, “Your Lord is vast in mercy, but His wrath won’t be diverted from sinners.”

148. The pagans will say: “If God wanted, neither our ancestors nor we would have associated, and we wouldn’t have forbidden anything.” Likewise, those before them lied — until they tasted Our might. Say, “Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? You're just following thoughts and telling lies.”

149. Say, “God has the decisive argument. If He had willed, He would have guided you all.”

150. Say, “Bring forward your witnesses who will testify that God prohibited this.” If they testify, don’t testify with them. And don’t follow the thoughts of those who deny Our revelation, nor of those who deny the Hereafter and equate others with their Lord.

151. Say, “Come, let me tell you what your Lord forbade you: associate nothing with Him; treat your parents well; don’t kill your children because of poverty — We provide for you and them; don’t come near indecencies, whether outward or inward, and don’t kill anyone — God made life sacred — except in the pursuit of justice. That’s what He commanded you, so that you may think.”

152. And don’t come near the orphan’s property, except with the best of intentions, until he reaches maturity. And be honest with your weights and measurements. We never burden anyone beyond their ability. And when you speak, be honest, even about a family member. And keep your promise to God. That’s what He commanded you, so that you may be thoughtful.

153. This is My path, straight, so follow it. And don’t follow the other paths, because they’ll divert you from His path. That's what He commanded you, so that you may refrain from wrongdoing.

154. Then We gave Moses the Scripture, complete for the righteous, and explaining everything in detail, guidance, and mercy, so that they might believe in the meeting with their Lord.

155. This is also a blessed Scripture that We revealed. So follow it, and be righteous, so that you may receive mercy.

156. In case you say, “The Book was revealed to two groups before us, and we weren’t aware of their teachings.”

157. Or, in case you would say, “If only the Book were revealed to us, we would have been better guided than they were.” Enlightenment has come to you from your Lord, along with guidance and mercy. Who, then, does more wrong than someone who denies God's messages and turns away from them? We'll repay those who turn away from Our communications with the worst punishment — because of what they did.

158. Are they waiting for the angels to come to them, or for your Lord to come, or for some signs of your Lord to appear? The Day some signs of your Lord appear, no soul will benefit from its faith, unless it had already believed, or acquired goodness through its faith. Say, “Keep waiting; we too are waiting.”

159. As for those who divided their religion and became denominations, you have nothing to do with them. Their case rests with God. He will inform them of what they did.

160. Whoever does a good thing will have ten times more. And whoever does a bad thing will only be reimbursed with its equal — and they won’t be mistreated.

161. Say, “My Lord guided me to a straight path, an upright religion, the faith of Abraham the Monotheist, who wasn't pagan.”

162. Say, “My prayer and my worship, and my life and my death, are devoted to God, the Lord of the Universes.

163. He has no partner. I was commanded to do that, and I’m the first of the submitters.”

164. Say, “Shall I seek a Lord other than God, when He's Lord of everything?” No soul gets except what it deserves, and no one bears the burdens of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of your disputes.

165. It's He who made you successors on earth, and He elevated some of you in rank above others, to test you by what He gave you. Your Lord is quick to take revenge, and He's Forgiving and Kind.
